Dr Peeter Mehisto

Peeter Mehisto specialises in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). He has worked primarily in Europe and Asia with a wide variety of stakeholders to support the development and management of CLIL programmes, at the primary, secondary and university levels. Peeter Mehisto also has extensive experience developing and delivering professional development for teachers, and other CLIL stakeholders in countries as diverse as Brazil, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, South Korea and Vietnam. This has included one-on- one mentoring in CLIL classrooms.

Peeter Mehisto has taught at the primary, secondary and university levels. He has researched factors contributing to successful bilingual programme development, as well as potential barriers to their implementation. Peeter has conducted several evaluations of CLIL and bilingual programmes including one at the university level.

 

He has won several awards for his work. He is the lead author of the awarding-winning book Uncovering CLIL: Content and Language Integrated Learning in Bilingual and Multilingual Education (Macmillan). More recently he has written Excellence is Bilingual Education: A guide for school principals (Cambridge University Press). His latest book, which is a co-publication, is called Building Bilingual Education Systems: Forces, mechanisms and counterweights (Cambridge University Press). He is currently co-authoring a new book for Cambridge University Press entitled CLIL Essentials for Secondary School Teachers.
